UrbanIxD Summer School

Bronwyn Cumbo

Bronwyn is fascinated by the connection between people and the natural world in urban environments: The factors that drive the perception and value urban inhabitants place on the natural environment, and how this perception is linked to health and well-being. After completing a B. Environmental Sciences (Hons) at the University of NSW, Bronwyn spent ten years working in scientific research, community environmental education, and program development, in Australia, Guatemala and Vietnam. Through these experiences, she developed an interest in tools that motivate individual passion for environmental conservation, specifically human interactive and pervasive technologies and how they influence our perception of the urban environment. Is there potential for this technology to influence the perception and value people have for the natural world?

Bronwyn is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Technology, Sydney, in this area, investigating the application of pervasive mobile games in building a connection between youth and the natural environment in urban areas. Bronwyn’s other passion is music. She plays the piano, violin and guitar, and composes for a variety of ensembles and films. When she has the time and money she also enjoys travelling and adventuring to all places far and wide.
